The 2023 CrossFit Open begins on Feb. 16, 2023. The required equipment for competing athletes remained a mystery until Dec. 21, 2022, when the complete equipment list for the 2023 CrossFit season was released in the newsletter “The Hopper.” While the list is subject to change, its initial iteration consists of 14 implements of varying sizes and weights and some of the corresponding movements they will be used for. Below is the list as it appeared in the announcement:
*”Climbing ropes and GHDs will not be required for the Open but may be used during later stages of online competition.”

The 2023 CrossFit Open will be the debut of kettlebells in the programming for Individual competition if they are used. Since the Open’s inaugural year in 2011, kettlebells have yet to be used for Individual programming.

The 2022 CrossFit Open was won by 2022 CrossFit Games runner-up Mal O’Brien, coached by five-time Fittest Man on Earth® Mat Fraser and his HWPO programming, in the Individual Women’s division and Saxon Panchik in the Individual Men’s division. Registration for the 2023 CrossFit Open is live.
